Sports Premium
We currently hold the School Games Gold Award
What is the Sports Premium?
The government continues to provide substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. The money goes directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and P.E; each school will be receiving a minimum of £8,000. The Youth Sports Trust has announced that there will be 400 targeted schools (including Plymouth schools) over 2 years used as the national delivery partner, costing 22.5 million. A separate grant from the Lottery called ‘Every child can’ will be released soon – Every Child Can – £132.5 million. This is funded through the Dormant Assets Scheme and managed via The National Lottery Community Fund. It funds activities within school, community programmes, weekend activities, and holiday provision.
Please find information below regarding our use of the Government's PE and Sports funding.
Physical Education at Oreston Community Academy
We spend the sport premium funding on improving our provision of PE and sport so that all children have access to high-quality learning experiences and to encourage a lifelong active, healthy lifestyle. We recognise, value and celebrate how PE makes a positive contribution to mental and physical health, well-being, attitude and achievement.
Bearing all this in mind, this year's funding has been spent in the following way:
- Continuing our relationship with Plymouth Schools Sport Partnership to gain their advice, coaching support, involvement in festivals and training. We have also strengthened our support from Plymouth Argyle Primary Stars and Premier Sport to develop and enrich our PE sessions with the children. As well as providing whole school training for the staff, all classes have taken part in fun and engaging sessions with our link teachers from these providers. This, in turn, helps develop the skills of our teachers.
- Engagement for all in regular physical activity with resources purchased so that we can deliver 2 hours of physical activity each week.
- We deliver the Arena PE program that has improved the quality of teaching and learning across the school. Arena provides our primary school with unique programmes to compliment our PE and extra curriculum provision. They also provide an extensive sporting event calendar for us.
- Year 6 and Foundation pupils have received Bikeability and Balanceability training - this supports our Personal, Social, Health Education curriculum.
- Health week ensured that all children took part in an inter-class and inter-house sports day and tried out a new sport.
This provision is being reviewed and monitored by our leadership team and governors, to ensure the expenditure benefits all children.
