Writing
At Oreston, our English curriculum is designed to inspire a love of reading and writing through a carefully sequenced progression of skills from EYFS to Year 6. Each year builds on the last, ensuring children develop the confidence and capability to express themselves with clarity and creativity.
We follow the Book Writes approach, which structures writing into three key phases: Explore (learning about the text), Build (practising key writing skills), and Invent (applying those skills in independent writing). This method supports children in mastering a wide range of genres and text types, including both fiction and non-fiction, from engaging picture books to thought-provoking novels.
To support high-quality outcomes, we use rich, high-quality texts that spark imagination and model excellent language. Alongside writing, we prioritise spelling, handwriting AND grammar through consistent use of Spelling Shed, Grammarsaurus and regular handwriting practice, maintaining high expectations across all areas of English.
