History
"The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future" - T Roosevelt
At Oreston Community Academy, children benefit from the Opening Worlds humanities programme, a knowledge-rich curriculum designed to deepen understanding in history, geography, and religion. The curriculum introduces pupils to a wide range of cultural, historical, and ethical perspectives, offering purposeful opportunities to apply, share, and build on their learning.
Our diverse and culturally rich curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure children develop core skills, concepts, and values in a coherent and rigorous way. Through storytelling and creative expression, learners are inspired to explore ideas and make meaningful connections across subjects.
Children at Oreston engage in a variety of enhancement and enrichment activities that bring learning to life and promote high-leverage outcomes. These experiences encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and the ability to link knowledge across the curriculum. Vertical sequencing within subjects supports vocabulary fluency, with systematic introduction, sustained practice, and deliberate revisiting helping pupils embed and extend their understanding over time.
