PSHE
At Oreston Community Academy, we use the Jigsaw programme to teach PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) and promote children’s health and well-being. This approach helps us to support your child in learning about relationships, emotions, health, and how to look after themselves and others.
Jigsaw covers all the essential parts of the Relationships and Health Education curriculum, while also helping children to develop important life skills like confidence, empathy, resilience, and how to manage their feelings. Each class has one dedicated PSHE lesson per week, giving children the time and space to explore topics in a calm and thoughtful way. These sessions include group work, class discussions, creative tasks, and speaking and listening activities.
Each term, the whole school focuses on the same theme (with lessons adapted to suit the age and needs of each year group), helping to build a shared understanding across the school community. Assemblies, both in class and as a whole school or key stage, help to introduce new topics and link learning to real-life events and celebrations throughout the year.
We believe this approach allows every child to grow in confidence, build positive relationships, and truly shine as their unique selves.
