Computing
At Oreston Community Academy, we believe that computing is an essential discipline that empowers children to understand, participate in, and shape the rapidly evolving digital world. Computing is far more than learning to use technology; it develops problem-solving, logical thinking, creativity, resilience and innovation, equipping pupils with skills that will support them throughout their education and future careers.
Our computing curriculum is built upon the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) Teach Computing Curriculum, developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The curriculum provides a coherent, ambitious and research-informed progression of knowledge and skills from Year 1 to Year 6, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the National Curriculum whilst developing computational thinking, digital literacy and computer science knowledge.
We recognise that technology plays a significant role in everyday life. Therefore, we ensure that pupils become competent and responsible digital citizens who understand both the opportunities and responsibilities associated with technology. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils learn to create, analyse, evaluate and apply computing knowledge across a wide range of contexts.
By the time pupils leave Oreston Community Academy, they will have developed the confidence, knowledge and skills to use technology safely, creatively and purposefully. They will understand how digital systems work, be able to solve problems using computational thinking, and appreciate the impact technology has on society both now and in the future.
