Walking Bus

At Oreston Community Academy we want to promote healthy living by getting as many students, and parents, on our weekly walking bus.  Start your day with some exercise through local countryside, plenty of fresh air, and a stress free social activity. On top of that you are also helping the environment by cutting down on carbon omissions by not using the car to get to school.

The walking bus starts at the Beckly Centre, Mayers Way, off Hooe Road, and makes it way towards Radford Lake (the duck ponds), which is another pick up point.  We then head towards Hooe Lake and onto the footpath towards the school (and Morrisons Superstore), another pick up point here at the lower end of the Kingfisher Quay estate.  We make our way along the old railway line, now public footpath, to the rear of the school, taking a register at the school bus stop before allowing the children to disembark!

Run by our walking bus driver, Steve Fleming, and assisted by one of our parents, the walking bus takes place every Monday and Thursday; meeting at the Beckly Centre at 08:20 for prompt departure at 08:25.

Parents are welcome to join us on the walk.

During the winter months all children will need to arrive with waterproof coats, and wellington boots. It can get very muddy on the walk. Please make sure they have their school shoes in their bags to change into once we arrive at school.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HOPPING ON THE BUS PLEASE COULD YOU LET THE SCHOOL KNOW IN ADVANCE SO WE CAN ADD YOUR CHILD TO THE REGISTER.

Happy walking.
