Oreston Community Academy

Nursery

Our Nursery led by experienced early years teachers is fully integrated into the main school Academy and is part of the wider Early Years Team (Reception).

As a provision, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for children in their early years. Here at Oreston Nursery, we are dedicated to providing exactly that. Our curriculum is carefully designed to help children explore, experiment, and learn through play while fostering their social, emotional, and cognitive development. We understand that every child is unique, and we believe in providing individualised care and support to help them reach their full potential. Our team of passionate and experienced staff are committed to providing a safe and secure environment where your child can thrive. We take pride in our warm and welcoming setting, where we encourage children from age 3 to interact and learn from one another.

Our Nursery children are also able to access all other school services such as age-appropriate specialist PE teaching and our in-house speech and language therapist.

We encourage all prospective families to book a nursery tour.

Wraparound Care

Some families may require a longer day; with this in mind we also offer nursery places in our before and after school provision (Lighthouse Club).

  • 7:30am- 9:00am before school (1.5 funded hours can be used)

  • 3:00pm-6:00pm after school (3 hours of funded hours can be used)

If you wish to buy additional hours on top of the funded hours you can do this during any of our opening times, providing there is space. Please follow the fees and funding link below.

Our nursery is a term time only setting and opens in line with the rest of the school, however children can continue to attend during the holidays in our Lighthouse Club which is also the Academy's own Before and After School Club. It is run by our own staff as a service for our Parents/Carers and is intended to offer the best quality and value possible.

The Lighthouse Club can be used by all our age groups from Nursery through to Year 6. The Lighthouse Club is run in the Studio and Hall and we also use the Playgrounds.

Within this Club the children are able to take part in various age appropriate activities of their choice such as arts and crafts, table activities, board games, and cookery.

Our half term ‘holiday’ opening times are from 8.00am - 5.30pm.

Please click on the documents below or contact us directly for further information.

Fees and Funding

All three and four-year olds are entitled to a free Early Years place for 570 hours a year over no fewer than 38 weeks of the year. We admit children that will be using their Early Years Education Funding and those that are buying hours. There may be some children who are only attending for funded hours and some that attend for a combination of funded and bought hours. The minimum amount of funded time in a day is 3 hours and the maximum is 9 hours.

A morning or afternoon session is £11, or a full day (9am - 3pm) is £22.

Fees are paid via the Teachers2Parents app, which you will be invited to join once your child starts in nursery.

To apply for 30 hours funding for the first time there is a deadline for Plymouth City Council:

  • 31st August – for a September start (autumn term)

  • 31st December – for a January start (spring term)

  • 31st March – for an April start (summer term)

If the above deadlines are missed Plymouth City Council will not accept your code for the entire term. This code needs to be renewed every three months and it is the parent/carers responsibility to do this with HMRC.
