Appointments during the school day
Please note that we do require a copy of appointment slips/letters (Doctors, Dentist, and Hospital) which take place during the school day, these will be held in confidence in your child’s personal file.
This will help the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) who monitors absences across the school and will also ensure that your child’s personal attendance record is correctly marked.
We do understand that emergency and Hospital appointments are out of your control however we request that where possible routine dental/doctor’s appointments are made either outside of school hours or at the end of the school day.
Avoiding Late Attendance
In recent weeks we have seen a number of children arriving after the second bell when the gates have already been locked. Unfortunately this caused them to have to come into school via the Office and be late for class.
We therefore politely request that every effort is made to be in school on time. Persistent lateness is considered to be a form of absence and is monitored (in accordance with the guidelines) by the Education Welfare Officer (EWO).
We would like to remind all parents / carers and children of the times of the school day:
8.40 am The school gates open*
8.50 am The children come into school (as independently as possible!)
9.00 pm The school gates are locked for security
12.00 - 1.15 pm Foundation/ Key Stage 1 lunchtime
12.15 - 1.15 pm Key Stage 2 lunchtime
3.10 pm The school gates open
3.20 pm The end of the school day
3.30 pm The school gates are locked for security
*Please note that 8.40 – 8.50 am is set aside as the time Parents/Carers can enter the school to speak to teachers and make enquiries.
Once the bell goes allowing the children to access the corridor it creates a Health and Safety issue if adults attempt to come in at the same time and they will therefore be requested by staff not to do so.
Please ensure that you call the school by 9.20am to report any absences.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
